Frequently Asked Questions
how do I do portfolios?
There are 2 science portfolios each semester. Follow the directions on my Lesson Helpers page, NOT the Connexus directions. You will see on the Lesson Helper options for the portfolio, video directions, and a template to use. You can also view examples here.
*If you are stuck on a portfolio, you may submit a blank document so you can continue to progress while you work on it. When you finish, send it by webmail. Make an appointment with me if you need help!*

How do I raise my grade?
Click here for clear directions on how to improve your score on quick checks, tests, and portfolios. I do not have standing extra credit opportunities.
How do I take notes?
Taking notes is SO IMPORTANT in this class! I will give full credit for any quick check for sending in a picture of your notes. You are encouraged to use your handwritten notes on the tests! Find step-by-step directions on how to take notes on paper here.
How do I approach science lessons?
Read my instructions on the Lesson Notes FIRST! Here, I will link videos (some I created) about the lesson as well as the Lesson Helper. The Lesson Helper is what you should write down in your notebook. I make sure that all test questions/quick check questions are covered in the Lesson Helper.
At the end of the year, you should have a notebook FULL of each lesson's notes. This is something to be proud of!

Do I have to complete all of the "extra" activities in the connexus lessons?
You are not required to do the "extra" activities in the Connexus lessons, such as making posters, etc. If you feel like doing so will help your learning process, go ahead! However, you should not spend more than an hour on science on a typical day.
how do I prepare for tests?
Before taking any science test, complete the study guide! They are always posted on the Lesson Helper page. Beside the study guide is a video of me going over the answers. I suggest completing the study guide on your own, then watching the video to check your answers before taking the test. You should also USE THE NOTES that you completed during the unit on the test!
If you do not score well on the test, you can send me the completed study guide, and I will provide an alternate test where you can earn 90% credit.
